Functionality and structure of the bend lights

We take a trip into the world of chemistry and explain how to use the glow sticks and what to look out for.

1. mode of operation

A chemical reaction takes place in the glow sticks after they are bent. This reaction can be compared to that of a firefly. All glow sticks are filled with a chemical substance. The reaction puts certain dyes into a so-called electrically excited state for a short period of time. In this state, the substances have an energetic surplus. If the substance returns to its basic state, this energy surplus is emitted in the form of light. In the case of buckling lights, this is often referred to as cold light. Depending on the type of dye used in the buckling light, the wavelength of the light and thus the color visible to the human eye varies.

2. structure of the bending lights

All buckling lights consist of a plastic body, no matter if power buckling lights or arm buckling lights. There is a chemical substance inside the plastic body. Inside the bend lights is another container, usually made of glass or brittle plastic. In this container there is another chemical substance. If you carefully bend the bend light, the inner container breaks. The two liquid components then mix in the bend light. A chemical reaction of the two elements occurs and energy in the form of light is emitted. The structure of the bend light is generally quite stable. Depending on the structure, the buckling lights are particularly robust and large or light and flexible.
